Malicious photo montages, digital smear campaigns, threats of violence – what sounds like the dark outer reaches of the internet has become a grim daily reality for many women, especially politicians. In her new book, Feindbild Frau [“Woman as Enemy”], Ingrid Brodnig, journalist and expert on debate culture and the digital public sphere, analyzes how digital violence arises, how it is often stoked by right-wing networks, and which opportunistic media mechanisms are behind the attacks. At phil.COLOGNE she meets Ricarda Lang, former co-leader of the German Green Party, and activist and author Kristina Lunz (whose works include “The Future of Foreign Policy Is Feminist”), both of whom have faced considerable digital abuse for years and taken a public stand against online hate. Host: Stephanie Rohde
