When does fascism begin? With Mark Terkessidis and Eva von Redecker
Governments and societies around the world are shifting to the right, authoritarian forces are gaining influence, and minorities are coming under increasing pressure. Accusations of fascism are everywhere and growing ever louder. But fascists are always “the others” – even the most authoritarian governments claim to be fighting fascism. How do we go about finding a definition in these confusing times?
In his book Violence in Thought, Mark Terkessidis explores the social and political conditions behind fascism. In The New Fascism: Entitlement and the Urge to Destroy, philosopher Eva von Redecker presents an analysis of fascism in its contemporary form, which rejects simplistic historical analogies. On stage at phil.COLOGNE, the two will discuss their respective theories and explore the question of where fascism begins. Host: Alexander Görlach
