Save democracy – but how? With Philip Manow and Julian Nida-Rümelin
Autocrats are coming to power worldwide, the populist far right is gaining strength all over Europe, and in Germany, the AfD has achieved approval ratings that were previously unheard of. It is impossible to ignore warnings about the shattering of our liberal democracy. But how can we protect ourselves from the opponents of democratic values and institutions? While some point to the principle of majority rule and criticize how our societies are increasingly turning to the right, others demand legal guarantees to protect minorities. This brings with it a fundamental question: What defines our democracy at its core? Time for a discussion of democratic theory! On stage, philosopher Julian Nida-Rümelin (“Ähren im Wind” [“Bending with the Wind”]) meets political scientist Philip Manow (“Under Observation”). Host: Gert Scobel
