Traumaland – tracing German’s past and present. With Asal Dardan and Dmitrij Kapitelman
Germany’s past reaches painfully into our present. Remembering is important, and later generations still bear responsibility. In Traumaland, author Asal Dardan (“Betrachtungen einer Barbarin” [“Observations of a Barbarian”]) looks for clues in Germany’s past, revealing parallel and contradictory experiences in migrant society. Which memories are listened to, and which are not? How to deal with past guilt? She discusses these questions with author Dmitrij Kapitelman. He came to Germany at the beginning of the 1990s as a Jewish “quota refugee” and directly experienced the anti-Semitism and racism of the post-reunification years. In his novels, (including “Russian Specialties”, “Eine Formalie in Kiew” [“A Formality in Kiev”]), he writes in inimitable fashion about the immigrant experience. Host: Ferdos Forudastan
