We like to think that humans rule the Earth. But our fate is actually decided by tiny organisms that are invisible to the naked eye. With his book “The Hidden Life of Trees”, Peter Wohlleben changed our understanding of the forest forever. Now he turns his attention to bacteria, the smallest and most powerful organisms in the world. In his new book, Bacteria: The Hidden Heroes, Germany’s most famous forester shows that we not only live with bacteria, we are made of them. Bacteria can be found in every one of our body cells, they produce hormones that affect our moods, and they communicate with each other in an amazingly sophisticated way. Wohlleben asks: What would happen if we stopped battling them as enemies and instead learned to cooperate with them – for our health and for the climate? Host: Julia Schöning
