What keeps societies together? With Xu Jilin, Daniel Leese and Andreas Voßkuhle
Over the last fifty years, China has become a global power. Yet here in Germany, we still know little about the discourse, debates and developments in the country. Time for a transcontinental discussion of business, values and societal models.
Historian Xu Jilin is one of China’s most celebrated intellectuals (his book, Aufklärung und Anti-Aufklärung im China der Gegenwart [“Enlightenment and Anti-Enlightenment in Present-Day China”] will be published in September). He talks to constitutional law specialist and former president of Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court Andreas Voßkuhle (“Europe, Democracy, Constitutional Courts”) and China expert Daniel Leese (“Chinesisches Denken der Gegenwart” [“Contemporary Chinese Thought”]) about what holds societies in East and West together, and which institutions and values are helping to implement the coming waves of transformation.
