About Asal Dardan
Asal Dardan was born in Tehran in 1978. After her parents fled from Iran, she grew up in Cologne, Bonn and Aberdeen. She studied cultural studies in Hildesheim and Middle Eastern Studies in Lund. As a freelance author, she writes for publications such as Zeit Online, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Berliner Zeitung. For her text ”Neue Jahre” [“New Years”] she won the Caroline Schlegel Prize for essay-writing. Her new book, “Betrachtungen einer Barbarin” [“Observations of a Barbarian”], was published in 2021. After living on the Swedish island of Öland for years, Asal Dardan now lives with her family in Berlin.
