Philosophical approaches are an inextricable part of anti-racist and post-colonial theory. At the same time, however, philosophy has always been a driving force for the development and anchoring of racist thought. From today’s perspective, many consider moral philosopher Immanuel Kant to be the founder of modern – ostensibly “scientific” – race theory. How racist are Kant’s theories? And which thought patterns have lasted until our present day? Who better to answer these questions than Reza Mosayebi? He teaches at Ruhr University Bochum and conducts research into Kant’s philosophy and critical race theory. He talks to journalist and author Alice Hasters (most recently, “Identity Crisis”). Together, they look for a way to deal with racism in the intellectual legacy that still influences our cultural history today.
