Good money? Ways to a fair and sustainable society. With Philippa Sigl-Glöckner and Michael Hüther
These days, it often seems that money is the opposite of good. It flows to where it already exists in excess: into complex financial products or expensive real estate. At the same time, there is a lack of money where it is urgently needed: kindergartens, climate-friendly production plants, long-term care homes and research institutes. In her book Gutes Geld [“Good Money”], Philippa Sigl-Glöckner, a financial expert and founder of the think tank Dezernat Zukunft, asks uncomfortable questions about our political system – and provides specific ideas on how to make economic policy more equitable. In conversation with Michael Hüther, Director of the German Economic Institute (IW), she will discuss what is going wrong when the debt brake and market logic become more important than climate protection, education or social cohesion. How can we imagine a financial order that fosters rather than merely manages prosperity? Host: Michael Hirz
