Digital diagnoses: What is driving the increase in mental illness? With Thomas Fuchs and Laura Wiesböck
Overstimulation leads to overwhelm and anxiety, the faster pace of life leads to chronic tiredness, constant self-observation and self-portrayal lead to depression. At least, these are the theories behind the current digital skepticism. It is true that mental illness and neurodiversity appear to be diagnosed more often, especially among young people (ADHD, for example). But what are the driving factors here? And what does digitalization have to do with it? Does excessive use of social media really lead to mental illness? Or in the digital era, are we now determined to diagnose life crises, emotional injuries and phases of inefficiency as an illness? A discussion between philosopher and psychiatrist Thomas Fuchs (Embodied Emotions) and sociologist Laura Wiesböck (Digital Diagnoses). Host: Wolfram Eilenberger
