About Volker Wissing
Volker Wissing was born in 1970 and is a German lawyer and politician. After completing his law studies and doctorate, he worked as a judge and public prosecutor. From 2004 until 2013, he sat in the German Parliament as a member of the FDP party. From 2016 until 2021, he served as Minister of Economic Affairs, Transportation, Agriculture and Viticulture as well as Deputy Minister President of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In December 2021, he was appointed Federal Minister for Digital and Transport in the coalition government comprising the SPD, Green and FDP parties. As of 2024 and 2025, he additionally took on the role of Federal Minister of Justice. When the governing coalition fell apart, he left the FDP in November 2024 but stayed on as an independent minister in the German federal government.
