About Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht

Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht is the Emeritus Albert Guérard Professor in Literature in the Department of Comparative Literature at Stanford University. Since 2020, he is also Presidential Professor of Romance Literatures at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In addition, he is a permanent guest professor at Universidade de Lisboa and Collège de France. Gumbrecht teaches and publishes on topics relating to literary aesthetics and literary history, contemporary culture and politics, and sports. His work has been recognized with 12 honorary doctorates from seven countries. Via various media, he often engages in current debates in German-speaking countries and in South America.
