She is one of the most important thinkers in the world, and in recent years she has gained great renown through her insightful analyses of our relationship models and love in late capitalism ("Why Love Hurts", "The End of Love"). Her interviews and statements following the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 are politically clear and come from a place of exceptional humanism and concern for the future of the region. The sociologist Eva Illouz, who teaches in Tel Aviv and Paris, has repeatedly and harshly criticised the Netanyahu government (most recently “Undemokratische Emotionen: Das Beispiel Israel”). Her new landmark work Explosive Moderne will be published in autumn 2024.
A conversation about the volatile condition of the Middle East, the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip, rampant anti-Semitism and possible developments in the future.
