Cherry blossoms and demons. Travelling and filming with Doris Dörrie in Japan.
For years, director and writer Doris Dörrie (most recent book: Die Reisgöttin – und andere Mitbringsel) has felt a deep connection to Japan. And not just on a personal level, but artistically as well: she has travelled there over 30 times, and Japan plays a central role in her work. She has set a total of five of her films there, including her successful film Cherry Blossoms – Hanami and its sequel Cherry Blossoms & Demons; her writing contains reflections on travelling in general and on Japan in particular. She talks about her fascination with the country's culture, art and society, about the diverse experiences that each visit brings with it, about the attraction of this island nation. And about the foreignness that we sometimes need to discover new things about our own identity. Mod.: Knut Elstermann
