All America is talking about the book “Woke Racism”. Linguist John McWhorter sees in woke antiracism a movement of self-appointed arbiters of an antiracism that breaks all rules of reason, employs racist arguments and endangers the American social fabric.
For him, this take on identity politics is tantamount to a new religion, and he explains incisively why it is too radical – and not antiracist at all. He argues that this unintended neoracism is wrong and dangerous and imperils integrative discourse. However, McWhorter is not without hope, and describes a possible path to justice with the potential to unite – and not divide. “McWhorter can teach us how to do better” (FAZ). “This linguist’s approach is convincing” (jungleworld).
