Christiane Woopen is a professor for ethics and theory of medicine at the University of Cologne. She is also Director of the Cologne Center for Ethics, Rights, Economics, and Social Sciences of Health (ceres) and heads the ethics research unit at the Cologne University Medical Faculty. In addition to national and international research projects on topics such as neuroethics, genome editing and quality-of-life issues, she is active as a policy adviser in such roles as Chair of the German Ethics Council (2012-2016) and, as of April 2017, Chair of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies, which advises the European Commission.
